"My first Michael Jackson piece (The Way You Make Me Feel) was the fastest selling original in my catalog, so I knew I would have to revisit him again at some point.
During one of my October shows, a collector approached me and stated that they would be interested in a MJ original if I ever decided to paint another. I had been toying with the idea of a minimalistic piece with a lot of negative space, the objective being to use that negative space to create a dramatic effect. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to realize the idea.
After spending hours on YouTube researching the various states of MJ’s style and personalities, I decided to re-watch the epic documentary This Is It, which followed him as he embarked on creating the show for his final tour. It was here that I was drawn to the “Smooth Criminal” persona. The fedora that routinely hid his face throughout the performances of this song added to the feeling of mystery and drama I had been hoping to create with this piece." - Stickman
